Lincoln University records the death in Wanaka on Thursday 10 June of Arthur Scaife MBE, a former chairman of the management committee of the campus-based Tussock Grasslands and Mountain Lands Institute. He was 90.
The institute, founded in 1960, was a centre for the coordination of all research aimed at protecting and improving the tussock grasslands and mountain lands, and to make this information readily available to all interested people and organisations.
Mr Scaife, originally from Glendhu Station, Wanaka and later West Wanaka Station, was third chairman of the institute and held office from 1973-76.
He is remembered as a great advocate for the high country and as a congenial colleague of institute staff.
