Alex Cartwright McCaw enlisted at age 20½ in the NZEF, WW 1. Discharged 18 October 1917, no longer physically fit for war service, on account of wounds received in action. Overseas 211 days. In 1940 Alex Cartwright McCaw was farming in the Hakataramea Valley, on “Windsor Downs”.
