Overall Vision: To reconnect the relationship between the People, Land, Port and Sea. The rebuild of Lyttelton will be designed to reference the rich narrative that surrounds the basin while catering for community needs & demands as well as future demands for tourism & recreation. Lyttelton is to be a destination hub that allows every visit to be an experience. 

Regional Objectives: Utilise the Port by opening it up to the public and connecting it to the township.

• Using locally sourced materials throughout the township, giving it a unique identify and character.
• Creating Lyttelton as a destination hub, using the rich landscape and character to attract people in.
• To create an adventure tourism attraction, using the Port as the gateway to Banks Peninsulas and the South Island.
• Emphasise the idea of Lyttelton as the gateway to Canterbury and South Island.
• Designing a township that meets the needs of the local community as well as tourists and visitors.
• Using the tunnel as part of the experience. Driving through the tunnel you reach the light at the end.... your destination .... Lyttelton.
• Creating an inner harbour recreation hub including yacht clubs, rowing clubs and fishing.
