Alister McLeod died on September 15, 1966 at his home in Motueka, as the result of a tragic accident in which he was electrocuted while working with equipment on his tobacco farm. He was in his 45th year at the time of his death. He spent his early years in the South Spring ston district and later on the West Coast where he had his secondary schooling at Greymouth Technical High School. He was awarded the West Coast Centennial Scholarship which was to provide the selected scholar with an opportunity to take a course in either agriculture or mining. He entered Otago University but joined the R.N.Z.A.F. at the age of 19 and served for five years of the Second World War in the European theatre, attaining the rank of Warrant Officer.
After returning to New Zealand he came to Lincoln and proceeded to complete the B.Agr.Sc. degree. He then took up a position on the staff of the Tobacco Research Station,
Riwaka, Nels~U. but about five years ago he relinquished this and took up tobacco farming
on his own account. He is survived by his wife and four sons, living at Douglas Rd., Motueka. (1966 Lincoln College Magazine (No. 91 1966))
