Roché is a national of Trinidad and Tobago and holds an undergraduate degree in Tourism Management and a Masters in Planning and Development with a specialisation in Coastal Zone Management - both from the University of the West Indies. Her PhD work reflects her commitment to advancing current knowledge and practice on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation in her regions mainstay tourism industry. Prior to commencing doctoral work under the auspices of a Commonwealth of New Zealand Scholarship at Lincoln University in February 2010, Roché lived and worked in the Caribbean. Through attachments with Lincoln University, the Caribbean Disaster and Emergency Management Agency, the Association of Caribbean States, the Caribbean Tourism Organisation and the University of the West Indies, Roché has worked on a range of sustainable development issues including sustainable tourism, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, risk communication, planning and development, public policy, institutional building and capacity development.
